Mission Statement

The mission of the Editorial Board of SIASSL is to advance the study, promotion, and preservation of indigenous signed and spoken languages across Africa and beyond. We are committed to publishing high-quality research that highlights the richness and diversity of these languages and supports the communities that speak them.

Editorial Board Composition

The Editorial Board shall comprise a diverse group of scholars, researchers, and practitioners with expertise in indigenous languages, linguistics, anthropology, and related fields. The board may also include representatives from indigenous communities if and when needed to ensure culturally sensitive and inclusive perspectives

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Editor-in-Chief: Oversees the editorial process, ensures the journal’s integrity, and represents the journal in academic and public forums.
  • Associate Editors: Assist the Editor-in-Chief in managing submissions, coordinating peer reviews, and making publication decisions.
  • Section Editors: Specialize in specific areas of research and provide expertise in evaluating submissions within their respective fields.
  • Advisory Board Members: Provide strategic guidance and support to the Editorial Board, ensuring alignment with the journal’s mission.

Submission and Review Process

  • Submission Guidelines: Authors must adhere to the journal’s submission guidelines, which are accessible on the journal’s website.
  • Peer Review: All submissions will undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure academic quality and integrity.
  • Decision-Making: The Editorial Board will make publication decisions based on reviewers’ recommendations and adherence to the journal’s standards.

Ethical Standards

The Editorial Board upholds the highest ethical standards in publishing. This includes:

  • Additional meetings may be called as necessary by the Chairperson.
